AmCham’s newest committee focuses on beer – one of the country’s largest taxpaying sectors. This Committee serves as a platform for breweries and other stakeholders to come together to gain collective strength to lobby the government when needed and to create industry standards. Members discussed the repercussions of the alcohol ban last year and shared ways that they were dealing with it. As vendors were not able to sell alcohol throughout the year, the breweries shared collective concerns.
Later in the year, there was some confusion about a new flow meter requirement from the government, which was not limited to the size of breweries. The Beer Committee worked through AmCham to raise this issue to Working Group D, the mechanism for the private sector to speak to the government directly, as well as to request an extension to the deadline.
